We’ve just been to several Tapas restaurants over the years and always enjoyed the variety inherent in this style of cuisine. Tapas is a style of food largely based on the sharing of small dishes.
Tapas restaurants and tapas bars are a great place to enjoy good food with friends. There are always a wide variety of delectable options to choose from at a tapas restaurant.
Tucked away in a large lot in former TGI Fridays space at 7991 Plaza del Lago Drive at Coconut Point in Estero is T42, the latest tapas restaurant to hit southwest Florida. The restaurant bills itself as a “unique tapas concept consisting of Italian, Seafood, & American Bistro style small plate menus.”
The decor is very upscale with excellent lighting.
We had a reservation and my wife, and I arrived around 7:00 p.m. and were promptly seated in the main dining area. As shown in the photo we were seated at a table shaped as a semi-circle so that we could sit right next to each other. Perfect for couples.
The waiter explained that it was a tapas experience and that the items ordered would come out when done. This is different than an appetizer which is usually served first. However, we requested that our flat bread tapas be brought out first which he did.
The flatbread was huge with a generous portion of mozzarella cheese sprinkled with some bay leaves. It was unique from other flatbreads we have sampled at Seasons 52 and Cooper’s Hawk as the crust was nice and thin. The wine we ordered, a Chardonnay was also excellent.
As additional side items we ordered avocado fries and carrots with asparagus. Those carrots and asparagus were tastefully arranged on a small plate. My wife loved the avocado fries, but I’m not into avocados so I passed on this dish.
For the main course I ordered the duck breast in a black cherry currant sauce that was cooked to perfection. It was a nice portion for a tapas item. The duck was also arranged beautifully on the plate. While it did not approach the level of my favorite duck, Peking
Duck, at Asian Fusion in Naples it came close.
My wife ordered the Fiocchi Pera which is stuffed with pear and ricotta cheese in a mascarpone cream sauce.
Our waiter provided excellent service and was able to answer my wife’s questions about whether any of the items we ordered had any items that she was allergic to. Prices were very reasonable.
The restaurant itself has more than adequate space with a large bar and several large areas where private parties of 20 or more can sit. The restaurant also has outdoor seating that seats up to 80 people. (See photo).
This cozy but large restaurant has left a memorable impression! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, a nice wine list and wonderful desserts. The restaurant current
T42 is shown on Yelp as having 4 of 5 stars.
